  1. Oh dear. Panicked horse + losing the reins = very bad. On the plus side, the horse is probably headed back toward the ranch.

  2. Well, at least Vin is…somewhat out of the danger Kel and the other two cubs have found themselves in. But where is Darius?

  3. Nice eyes!
    Darius woke up yet? 🙂

  4. River? Has Vin’s horse made a wrong turn?

    1. The track they were on probably turned while they were off panel. The river probably runs parallel to the road. Thus the reason why the river is almost parallel to Vin and his horse.

The fact that Vin is leaning forward will only make the horse run faster. Doubly so if he’s gripping with his legs.

I wonder why the horse is looking to the side?

      1. I gotta wonder if they train their horses the same as we do. I’d imagine it’d be similar though.

They would also hopefully give Vin, having never ridden before, a well broken horse suited to a newbie.

        1. But the normal staff of the ranch was tied up. So how could the vulpine “replacements” know which horse was well behaved?

        2. Point, though an intelligent mastermind would make sure one of the foxes was an equestrian experienced enough to make sure the horses didn’t screw up the ambush like this, for what it was worth.

  5. Not only has he lost the reins, he’s lost the stirrups too. At least he isn’t squeezing with his legs. Actually, I’m not sure how he’s stayed mounted. Could he actually be a natural circus acrobat?

    1. The stirrups are there, they’re right infront of his feet, the pocket like things hanging down. They aren’t the normal loop stirrups, Cyantians probably don’t have a big enough footpad to use a bar.. it’d start to hurt.

      1. That is correct. The stirrups do not have a round bar. They have a flat bar for stability that is wider and slopes from heel down to toe a little for leverage. The stirrups are enclosed on the front because their feet are more likely to slide through and get tangled being shorter than human foot. As for staying ON the horse – well… their different leg structure might give them a few seconds longer than a human in a similar situation. He’s also gripping the saddle itself for all he’s worth. 😉

        1. How much thought, (and how many notebooks,) goes into little details like stirrups for digitigrade anthropomorphic characters?

Poor Vin. He thought he was going to get a nice trail ride, some camping and a bit of survival training. Now he’s on a runaway horse heading into who knows what kind of trouble.

He may never ride a horse again.

        2. You never know. There may be a time when a ride on a horse means the difference between life and death. Especially with Rama out there, wanting to capture him for who knows what.

        3. Well he had a nice trail ride…for a while. Now if he survives this he may get to do some camping until he’s “rescued”. 🙂

  6. See? This is exactly what happens when you choose the horse over your raptor-mount.
