In all honesty, when I went about deciding on just what kind of weapon Celina could use from horseback, a flail popped into mind first. I've seen them used in exhibition, photos, movies, etc. ON HORSEBACK. Of course, I lengthened the shaft thinking it'd keep it from accidentally hitting the horse or wielder. ;) I'll note information I found stated that the one handed flail did exist, but was rare and personalized and used mainly on horseback. Interestingly, the info also went on to say that nobody really knows HOW they were used. :D But yeah, there are a couple of errors: The shaft is too long and she doesn't have to be spinning it (I think she's just spinning it to look threatening.) I'm kind of surprised why no one has asked WHY not a single Fox here is armed. :D

  1. Didn’t these fox see what happened to that Shivae?

  2. Celina will only bash their heads in. Rama and Filaire will do worse if they fail to catch the cubs.

    1. Also, Tiff: I can see why you’re proud of the second panel of this page.

  3. This is the Celina we all know and fear. ;p

  4. Everything OK but… seriously, a flail? This is two handed weapon. Is simply uneffective when you ale sitting on a horse. No matter how high-tech is this thing, Celina wont be able to swing it and do anything to her opponents. If I may suggest: Mace or a sabre would be bit better πŸ™‚

  5. Do a search for one handed flails and get back to me. 9.9 Because while rare, they did exist and in a variety of designs – for use on horseback or with a shield on the ground.

  6. I think You misunderstood something. Flails was more like tournament weapon, because in real combat you can kill yourself with it. (Trust me, I was trying to use flails, they suck:P) Tihis kind of Flail which Celina is using was used for example in China in XVIIc by infantry to fight on town walls. Aaaand it wasn’t one-handed weapon πŸ˜€ Sorry, I’m interested in medieval weponology πŸ™‚

  7. No, I did not. I found references.

  8. Hmm some plate armor and Celina would be a great Viking raider lol.

I make med-evil weaponry, its a hobby, pole flail is a dangerous weapon, no doubt. But in the hands of someone trained in the weapon its probably the worst weapon to encounter. It all depends on the users feel for the weapon. You can feel the mace whirling around, with enough experience one can time the swing with the rotation. Reach, and momentum, which leads to brain matter everywhere! “Juicy!”

  9. *Insert helicopter noises over the flail*

  10. *snickers softly* Always interesting to see a debate being formed over a weapon. Go Celina! Whack those foxies! The one to the bottom right looks like it’s quite surprised. 0.0 eyes *grins*.

  11. Sic ’em, Celina! Just one more reason I like you! πŸ™‚
All this and she asked after Darius’ welfare a couple of strips ago too.

Celina’s got a temper for sure, and Darius deliberately pulls its tail, but she does seem to actually care about the folks around her too, even Darius. πŸ™‚

    1. p.s. And Celina wields an Epic Flail! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

…Hah! Beat you to it! πŸ˜‰

  12. i would have thought she’d be more of a Shao Kahn’s War Hammer type person.

  13. so, why are none of the foxes armed?

  14. Because unarmed equals less chance of fatalities or serious injuries. If you’re intending to capture, the less lethal alternatives are the best.

    1. That sounds about right to me too.

There’s also the possibility that Rama and Filaire view them as expendable. Rama could also be using the unarmed fox to see how tough/skilled the cubs are, if they choose to fight.

I’ve heard of stunners in the cyantian universe. However, I don’t know if they’re common or reliable. Stunners are probably regulated and monitored as well, considering the possibilities for an easy squeezy knockout weapon in the wrong hands.

  15. Mika: The less lethal alternatives are best in such a case, yes, but I’d think stun or tranq guns would be a much more effective alternative than melee fighting, and can (with some assumptions) be much safer (aka less lethal) for everyone involved, including the targets…

Such weapons would still be considered arms, so not having them leaves the question still standing: why not?

There are several plausible explanations, I don’t know which one (if any) is correct; I’ll just wait and see, meanwhile assuming there’s a good one. πŸ™‚

  16. I’m reading your comments and thinking.. “but they all have arms, most have both showing… oh wait.. weapons. They’re Ninja foxes! or a band of kids..”

  17. dunno bout yall but…
the red fox’s left hand is giving a ‘thumbs’ up πŸ˜€

  18. The flail is fine, or even great. Flails were two-handed
weapons because 1) they are heavy, and 2) the more
control you have, the less likely you are to hurt yourself or
your comrades. This flail is probably lighter, as it’s made of
advanced materials, and Celina is a genetic-elite with
    extensive melee combat training.

Seriously, someone who thought of how the stirrups should
be modified for the different foot structure would think of this,
too. She even said she did, multiple times.

  19. It’s because the foxes are FERAL! And FERAL furries don’t use weapons, just instincts and natural defenses! XD Also, I’m guessing she’s spinning it so when she hits one of the foxes with it the added momentum from the spinning will add some extra punch. That’s why I’D spin it. Read my Spyro fanfiction on Fanfiction.net to see more examples of mostly-self-taught weapon and elemental smarts. My username on there is the same one shown here, but has capitals, punctuation, and spaces. Basically, it’s “I’ll Eat Yourself”. If you read my fic, leave a review for me and tell me what led you to it!
