  1. Oooo. Vincent comes into his own at last. He may not have a chance, but those claws are feline, not canine. Even if Rama beats him (before back-up arrives), I bet Vincent is going to so lots of painful damage first.

  2. Vin, “Girls, run! Lose yourselves in the crowd. These are MY problem!”

(I really hope Vincent kept up with his combat training. Love that last panel. Nice claws too.)

  3. Awright, Vincent!!

  4. I think Vin, Melody and Kerie are going to be in a world of hurt very soon. ๐Ÿ™

Help might arrive, but I don’t think any of them are getting out of here unscathed.

But I’m glad to see Vin standing up to his father, as someone has to, and Syrys isn’t here. Yet.

  5. There’s Blind Guardian’s Battlefield playing the background right now. This scene is a perfect description of that song in every way.

Also looks like Rama hasn’t given up hope for converting Vincent yet after all. He was probably expecting that Vincent would be harder to influence, seeing as the Akaelaes got to him first. So he’s irritated, but its not much more than a ‘rolling eyes and grumbling’ type of frustration.

    1. I was thinking more along the lines of “Battle without Honor or Humanity”.

      1. I don’t know that one, but Blind Guardian’s Battlefield is about a father and son meeting on the eponymous battlefield and being forced to fight/kill each other. Its a really depressing song actually when you read the lyrics, despite the upbeat style that Blind Guardian sings it in.

        1. “Battle without Honor or Humanity” is the piece that is playing during the scene in “Kill Bill” where O-Ren (Lucy Liu’s character) and her posse arrive at the House of Blue Leaves near the end of the film. I always think of this piece–which, incidentally, is one of my favorite instrumental pieces–when I see some crap about to go down.

        2. I listened to it and I’ve got to say, its a little too upbeat for this scene. I also don’t think now that Battlefield is suitable either since this fight doesn’t have a grand scope like that song entails. This is a much more personal affair.
My problem with “Battle without Honor or Humanity” is that is a groovy song that suits a fight when we see the heroes arrive to law down the law and we’re expecting them to triumph. Battlefield is a horrifying song that talks about great destruction being wrought in a fashion solely in the name of the army’s lords. Neither song fights this fight.
This battle is going to be a tragic fight where we admire Vincent’s defiance, but we aren’t stupid and know that his defeat is basically inevitable. Vincent’s not going to win, he’s not trying to be cool, and he’s not in it for honor or glory. He’s making a final, defiant stand because there’s simply nothing else to be done at this point. He can’t save the slave girls, but he can’t just stand by and do nothing. I ran through a ton of songs I know and I think ‘Revelations’ that was featured in the machinima series Red vs. Blue actually suits this fight. ‘Revelations’ has a desperate feel to it as we watch the heroes of the show wage a showdown against an ungodly powerful opponent that they’ve failed throughout the show to so much as hurt let alone come close to defeating. They’ve always just managed to escape or the enemy just leaves of his own accord for something more important that fighting the weak heroes. So Revelations has a huge taste of desperation (we don’t know how they can possibly win, they’ve failed so far) and nobility (we can’t help but cheer them on anyway). I’m not certain if the lyrics are a hundred percent match, but the instrumentation certainly is. So give ‘Revelations’ a try, I think its the closest we’ve got to a theme for this fight.

        3. My choice of music here?

Demon of Darkness, From Devil Survivor for the current fight. (Nicely foreboding and ominous.)

And for Vin himself, I think Sorairo Days will fit him, once he finds his path in life. (It’s hopeful, upbeat and about finding your path in life.)

  6. That the way Vin. Stall. I don’t know if he’s stalling or just acting on instinct, but he looks ready for some football. I hope he can cash the check he’s writing.

I’m surprised the girls haven’t gone full-tilt running and screaming. If Rama has his way this would be the last day of their lives and it won’t be a fun day.

  7. I suspect Melody is about to observe that Vin’s little cat claws don’t feel very nice at all.

  8. Poor Melody looks so lost and hopeless. Kerie’s strength just seems to have gone away from sheer terror. (Like I’d be any better…)

  9. Has Vin received his Technomage implant yet?

    1. That would be no, not yet. He is running on adrenaline.

  10. That one-word response from Vincent oughta confuse the heck out of “the boys”. ๐Ÿ˜‰ (They don’t really look overly bright; especially the white one.)

  11. Well this scene certainly tells you what kind of effect Rama has on Melody and Kerie.

Boys? Seems like these are some of his children. I wonder just how much they turned out like their father. Though living with Rama might have changed them to be like him, its also possible with interactions like others, they might be far more sentimental for the slaves then Rama ever would be.

Though this fight scene doesn’t look to good for these escapees. Rama has obviously kept himself active and healthy. He’s a fully active, age trained elite, what really are Vin’s chances in this battle.

    1. There is nothing more dangerous than the inspired amateur. Don’t count him out so quickly.

      1. Not to mention – it’s easier to fight exceptionally well for a good reason (like protecting someone in need). Also, Rama doesn’t want to really hurt Vin if he has any intention of eventually turning him, so it won’t be using his full capabilities. Personally, I want to see Vin give him enough reason to continue his fleeing (that was interrupted by this encounter) all on his own before backup arrives. Go Vin, and may the Fox be with you. ๐Ÿ˜‰

        Fox

P.S. I forsee Vin disabling the 2 thugs without laying a finger on ‘dad’, or vice-versa. We’ll see.

    2. Vin can’t win. Not against a fully trained elite wolf, who won’t hold back. Possibly three fully trained elite wolves (depending on if those two are his sons, and he’s taught them).
But he doesn’t have to win. He has to buy the girls enough time to get away, and himself enough time for either Quinn or the army to arrive. Granted – he doesn’t know Quinn’s coming – which makes this act of defiance fantastically brave of him. Vincent is quickly becoming my favorite of the new generation.

  12. “Boys” is a common term for male underlings, regardless of age. I doubt these guys are related to Rama. He wasn’t interested in any offspring that lacked his Elite genes, that’s why he took Vin.

  13. Ahh, a weekend cliffhanger, combined with the next page being done off-stream… nothing better to keep your readers on the edge of the seat.

And then on Monday we’ll be back to Filaire or Syrys and spend another two weeks there, of course. ๐Ÿ˜›

I still hope for a cold shower for Rama. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  14. Well, at least Vin is showing some spine now.

  15. Vin got smacked around last time he did the same thing. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Do you mean Orin when you mean “last time”? Because if so…
One one side, Vin’s now much healthier, /and/ much more desperate.
On the other… Rama’s at least one order of magnitude harder to fight than Orin, and probably more.
So… will we at least see what happens before your planned hiatus?

      1. Any damage Vincent deals to Rama would be minimal-to-annoying at best and Vincent’s would be curb-stomped by any one of these guys, no question about it, and the slaves will be defenseless. His best shot right now is to try and get the slave girls up and to back away into the main hallway to escape in the confusion.

        1. …and Vincent would be curb-stomped by any one of these guys, no question about it.

Seriously??!? If Rama fought without holding back, I’d fear for Vin. But the goons?? We know nothing about them, true, but to automatically assume that they’re far stronger than an Elite is folly – even if the Elite in question is young and unaware. Adrenaline and need make lessons very quickly learned…

Fox (not terribly concerned about Vin. The girls though…)

        2. Vin’s got to have only around 1/2-1/3 these guys body weight and Rama probably picked these guys because their capable fighters (Look at Filaire, Kamden, and the other fox warriors and their fight with Celina was unfairly in Celina’s favor). We see Darius beat the tar out of people, but he’s picking fights with classroom toughs, not mercenaries, and has been training for longer than Vincent. Genetic Elite or not, the simple laws of physics and size difference count for a lot.

  16. Maybe Rama will be pleased that Vincent found his nerve?

    1. Probably more disappointed at it. Yes Vin’s showing strength, but for all the wrong reasons and its more a sign that Vincent is very set against Rama. After all, when a fight/duel/war is fought its because the two sides are irreconcilable and the issue can only be settled by a trial of blood. This is more a sign that Vincent’s hopeless for Rama’s needs.

  17. *Insert sword unsheathing sound here as Vin claws outs*

    i smell Xanatos Gambit

    1. An intriguing conjecture. And you might be right. I wouldn’t put it past him. I’m eager to see how this plays out.

  18. Kitteh haz klawz!

  19. At least one of those girls is probably thinking “I hope I don’t get raped…” and at least on of the “boys” is probably thinking “He said do what we want…RAPIN’ TIME!” XD Gotta admit, that would suck. Also…Vincent’s claws are red-brown. I am probably wrong, but that could mean something.
