In fact, he seems rather amused by it. That is not good, I’m getting the impression that only someone with a ability that puts them in par with an elite has a chance. Does Filaire have more then just simple skill?
Technomage, as previously mentioned. Lets’ put it this way again, she has been working for Rama for long enough to have a good idea of his abilities, and is still standing there challenging him. This outta be interesting.
Also, this is someone else who in Vin’s eyes is going to get very hurt – I’m wondering if this is how Vin will find the strength to properly fight his dratsad, I mean dad.
She’s also a genetic Elite, IIRC. Elite fox are very fast and agile, if I remember the wiki info. The Squid gave the different races different abilities so any two could stand on roughly equal ground. With Filaire’s training, I would say she does stand a chance against Rama. Better than most, anyway.
I suspect she’ll wish she’d kept the armor just a little longer. Filaire probably won’t have any trouble with The Boys, even together, but Rama’s had too many years to acquire too many nasty tricks and he won’t pull any punches.
Where do y’all keep finding information like Filaire being a technomage and having worked for Rama for “years if not decades??” I don’t remember either of those from the stories she’s been in nor from the wiki!
Celina’s sword bounced off a shield that Filaire seemed to pull up during their fight, she confirms that her pedigree includes two black foxes as her parents, and she’s a Royal Knight or whatever the Fox call that profession. Unless the armor is powered, Filaire’s a technomage with a shield, has energy manipulation to some degree, and has the speed and strength of a Genetic Elite. This is probably where everyone’s drawing these conclusions and the evidence fits.
It may be that Filaire has been keeping her hair long because Rama likes it that way; longer hair is a big thing among the Wolves (tho especially among males, I think); if so, cutting it would be a message.
Cutting your hair off has been a ritual of penance among numerous earth cultures, though, and thus may be so among the Fox as well.
The armor I’m less clear on – surely it would be useful in most any fight – if it was anything at all like the “lifts” used later (in Campus Safari) it would be a huge advantage. (Perhaps Rama supplied her armor, and thus it cannot be trusted if you come into conflict with him? Perhaps facing your former leader with blades is a special ritual?)
In any case, I find myself hoping Filaire survives this – she is showing some depth of character, and a repentant villain with that much to atone for can be intriguing…
Two steel knives? She’s attacking him unarmored with two steel knives? What about that lightsaber of hers? I can see the electro-shock staff being less effective against something as big as Rama, but the lightsaber would be helpful.
This is Filaire going back to The Three. This is Filaire shedding away everything she has received through Rama and going back to simple, cold steel, that she probably won through her own efforts. This is Filaire standing up to Rama and saying: “I have stood by and seen what you have done to countless others through the years. Bring it.” This is Filaire announcing that if she is going to die she is going to die as a warrior, that honor means something to her. After years of subservience, she is going after Rama one on one, skill vs. skill, ability vs. ability. May the best warrior, not the most heavily armored one, win.
