  1. OK she’s got a point. But surviving also has to rate pretty high.

  2. Yes, you know you shouldn’t, but, what the heck right? I don’t know which way to go anyway and she seems okay now…

  3. Shielded?

Well to be fair, it isn’t completely Alpha’s and his son’s fault there.

They seemed like they knew what was what and it sounded many of the things she talking about are more of the councils fault then theirs.

Also it sounds like in one of the stories, that might get a teacher to use his powers with his family connections. I’d say go with staying with the family. Filaire is still a stranger and the Akaelae’s could probably teach him many of the things she’s offering. He’s also probably still a little young to take the chance anyway. Maybe he can take up Filaire’s offer later, when he isn’t so green.

Still, this is an interesting part of the chapter. We see Vin getting the choice to follow Filaire or go back to his family. Its a nice little bit of story telling, making a point where Filaire is trying to convince Vin to go with her. What will he choose? Nicely done Tiff.

    1. If he declines Filaire’s offer, he might not get another chance. The Akaelaes do have money and power, but they’re obviously missing things that others are seeing. But, Alpha and Syrys didn’t even suspect the fake invitations, and they might fall for such a trick again.

If he takes Filaire’s offer, he’s got a chance to learn what she knows, and she does have a point. But, Vin barely knows Filaire and he’s probably not sure if he can trust her.

Vin will probably be better off going with Filaire, as he probably does need time to be independent and on his own.

      1. Then again would anyone else fall for the same trap.

Fundamentally, we’ve already seen that Alpha and Syrys see what is going on. But the counsil keeps getting in the way. Indeed, I’m guessing Alpha and Syrys are more prepared for whats to come then any of the counsil.

On the flip side of this, Vin can use Filaire to get exposure to the elements she talking about and take what he learns and apply it when he returns to the Akaelea’s. Nothing really says he can’t use her like she and Rama were going to use him.

After all, he doesn’t really owe her anything.

  4. Um…he didn’t come from a sheltered life. He’s only been “sheltered” for…..a few weeks? Maybe a month? :/

He know what it is to be hungry, to wear only rags and take care of himself.

Filaire is a superiority-ist gold fox who just a few months ago was trying to abduct a friend of his on the grounds of him being a black fox. She and Rama deserved each other and now she’s all upset that Rama left her for dead? What did she think he would do?

    1. I’d think she thought Rama was her best chance at getting back at the king of foxes.

Of coarse, vengeance made her to just not care how amoral Rama is. Also those are some good points.

  5. The poor pup. His ears are never going to perk again at this rate. So much to deal with in so little time to adjust to any of it. Just when he’d begun to, here comes Rama, and now Filaire.

Where’s Darius… wait, bad idea… Kel?… someone wise and open minded he can trust, when you need them?

    1. His ears will probably perk back up once he’s had a little time to process all of this.

Plus, whether he leaves or stays, there’s something that will probably cheer him up no matter what the circumstances are:

      Celina’s smile.

  6. She is so beautiful I would follow her anywhere.
Even though she so thoroughly evil before,
    Or maybe because.
