Six days to the end of the month and $180 to go for the goal! All of that will likely go to groceries. Kim's diet to gain weight doubles our food bill. (Mostly with food I can't eat.) :( The monthly goal is $300 + whatever rolls over from the prior month. Last month was short $140 of the goal. That's why it fluctuated this month. (For those who were curious.) Since I set it to an absolute minimum - we're on sandwiches right now. I coupon and responsibly shop. Kim and my husband have food - I don't after lunch today. As a diabetic - bread is very BAD for me. I'll get some auctions up after I finish comics work. I'm open for single character, no bg $30 digital commissions (to go to $35 in June.) $30 inks on A4 Marker paper/9 x 12 bristol, $25 copic/watercolors art cards, $30 copic/watercolors badges/art card badge, $50 copic/watercolors on 6 x 9 canvas board. I also have stores reachable via the store button! *Edit* I got a bunch of new commissions, so not a pressing problem now and oh look, you can watch me stream to the right!! - Tiff

  1. Ouchies! That one hit a nerve.

    1. The truth hurts.

Filaire’s actually pretty smart to do this, as it makes sure that Vin will ALWAYS hate his father, and it’s likely to get him to come along with her.

Unfortunately, it’s a further shattering of Vin’s heart.

Poor guy. He really needs a hug. A hug, and another shot at Rama.

  2. Eh, I’m not sure that was a smart move on Filaire’s part.

Chances are that if the lightning show doesn’t cause problems, then Quinn most likely will lock on Vin from this.

Have a stated lately how well the emotional effects have been written for this and last chapter. I think I will, this has surely been a well written and drawn chapter.

  3. Filaire’s playing dirty. She -really- wants Vincent with her for some reason.

    1. He’s a powerful technomage who can unconsciously throw lightning bolts at her enemies, duh.

      1. No, Vincent isn’t a technomage.

        At least not yet.

      2. Rama and the Akaele have an interest in this guy. I still believe that is what makes him intersting to Filaire. Then of course she did pity him even during the meal with Rama. Not in a very flattening way but maybe her view of him has changed. A bit.

  4. Vin needed to hear that. He needed to know just what kind of person was pretending to treat him like a son. He needed to understand just how far, and how low, Rama is willing to go for his own selfish interests. As sad as it sounds, Vin is going to need to learn a little cold blood if he is to deal with Rama in the future. The Akaelaes can hire all the technomage tutors money can buy, but Filaire can teach cold-blooded in her sleep.

    1. Still, the Akaelaes have given him far more reason to trust them than the former second-in-command of his mother’s killer has.

      1. Kind of makes you wonder what Vin will do when he puts two and two together and figures out that Filaire most likely was there and disposed of the bodies?

  5. I would be surprised if Vincent hadn’t already figured that out, but having something like that confirmed would probably still be a shock.

    1. IIRC he suspected, but couldn’t confirm it.

  6. Vin knows how Rama would have been willing to use him.

But, remember that Filaire is the one who was thinking she’d even give herself to Rama if that was what was needed to get even with those who wronged her.

Now, she’s wanting to get back at Rama. Vincent better realize she’ll likely be just as willing to use him for her own ends as Rama was. And just as willing to discard him if it becomes neccessary.

Maybe she actually has some ability to care about Vin, but I just don’t trust that vixen.

    1. Filaire might actually stand to benefit from bringing Vincent along, as his Lawful Goodness might ease up her Lawful Neutral-Evil to at least just Lawful Neutral. Its a long shot, but Filaire needs a mollifying element in her life right now.

  7. I think Filair has Vins complete attention now.

  8. Sadly, Vincent’s mother deserved it. Stood at the sidelines while her boyfriend beat Vincent.

    1. I agree she deserved -something-, but not what she got.

      1. We don’t always get the justice we want. I’ve learned to appreciate to see an act punished harshly than not at all. Sadly, the latter is usually what happens.

  9. “Rama killed your mother, Vin” *thunderbolt*

I love how with Vin, cheesy dramatic weather effects are perfectly explainable.

  10. Filaire, that was a low shot, and a very effective one. It’s the truth, and it’s good he knows… but you played that car now to make him follow you… and we all know that. I wonder what kind of a person you will turn out to be in the end… and I’m both hopeful and worried.

Well, Vin… I’d say “good luck”, but that just sounds wrong here… I just hope that at the end of whatever path you’ll choose you won’t forget you’re a good wolf, after all… squid, no one would deserve half this pain…

    …Well, except your dad, maybe.

  11. -casually turns- btw Rama killed your mother
This is how I perceived today’s strip.
I’m sure my cynical sense of humor has nothing to do with it.

  12. A cold burn second only to, say, liquid nitrogen.
If Vin does follow Filaire it will only be so that he can find out how she knows this.

    1. Or perhaps because at this moment she is his best bet for survival now

  13. Filaire: *Slow turn* “Rama killed your mother, Vincent.”
Filaire: *Hides from impending unknown emotional outburst.*
    Vincent: *Shock and THUNDERBOLT!*

Filaire is gene savvy enough to know when to duck.
