I think Darrik is in for a mobbing — the miniwhips know he’s skittish of them – it’s just too good for them to pass up. But I think they’ll get a few more of their friends together so they can do a proper mobbing a little later, when he’s not expecting anything.
Uh-oh… If whips are anything like Terran Cats, Darrik is going to be followed by at least one of those whips, just because he backed away from them. Cats do exactly the same thing.
Given that Aurla, Chrome’s miniwhip/familiar displayed some cattish tendencies, tendencies ike chasing shinies and getting tangled in ribbon, whips seem to have SOME similarities to cats. So Darrik might get a whip or two on his tail.
But the cyantian critters that are most like cats without being a cat are definitely the gryphons. Heck, Marcus’ gryphon familiar Galen practically IS a cat, save for a beak, wings and an extra fluffy tail.
