  1. I can feel a good “Awwwww” moment coming up …

  2. Depressing….

  3. The colours here are so gorgeous, particularly the panther and the ocelot(?). Having worked in a market I know how they feel. Mind you, we never had any lovely blue goodies for sale….

  4. Sky fruits…intersting name. Hehe wonder what those taste like =p

“They should tell us when cub day is” What? they don’t have calendars there? or do they just pick a random date for cub day?

I may have the age wrong what with the silver grey hair on that vixen, but if she is around senior age she certainly has aged well…

My guess is Darrik is going to make their day and make them a big profit, trying all the “nibbles” as he calls them =p Curious where this will lead…at least we’ll get some insights on the class divisions

  5. Poor market people 🙁 not much worse than a bad day at market considering most people that sell from them run pretty close to the bone

  6. Nice market. Too bad business is so slow.
But, sky fruit does sound interesting.
Now the shopkeepers just need refrigeration, or LOTS of ice.

  7. I was thinking about Darrik bringing them some business when I first read this, too. I hope that’s how this turns out. I was kind of thinking that people would be going back and forth between the market for food and the fair for entertainment as inspired by Darrik (and possibly his friends).
I’m guessing the vixen is Biely’s mom, and that the mounties in the booth there are Safiri’s parents.
On another note, I once had a dream I was eating something blue that tasted really good, and I kind of imagine that if it had to be anything, it would be that sky fruit. XD

  8. yup, that is what happens when you throw a carnival….
depressing somehow though. somehow i see that changing soon

  9. I LOVE the coloring job on this!
Although, I would be kind of scared to buy some fish from a Panther wielding a meat cleaver XD
When I heard Sky Fruit I immediately thought of Star Fruit. ^w^
    That stuff is goooood!

  10. It just occurred to me… Cyantzium has quite the Anachronism Stew!

  11. Curse you Victor! Curse you and your tropifying ways! Now I have to double check to see if Anachronism Stew fits The Cyantian Chronicles.

*Checks Anachronism Stew* Nope, it doesn’t fit. Anachronism stew is about inaccurately portraying a historical period. As far as I know, Tiffany wasn’t trying to recreate a historical period with any of the cyantian cultures. As always, I could be wrong.

Schizo Tech, a related trope, does fit.

BTW: Victor, would you be willing to help add the tropes from The Cyantian Chronicles TV tropes page to the various trope pages? I’ve been meaning to do so, but there’s only so many hours in a day.

Oh, I’m not sure what to make of Safiri’s Mother’s expression in the last panel. I think it’s an “exasperated and yet still happy while hoping that my kids don’t bug me for money” expression. I think the exasperation is partly from having a cub and partly from not knowing that half of the produce/food could have been left on the vine till tomorrow thanks to Cub’s Day.

Fang: It was mentioned earlier that Cub’s Day is always a surprise, so I believe that it is somewhat random.

  12. Victor, how do you mean? You spot characters out of sequence?

  13. Perhaps they simply cannot afford refrigeration?

  14. Are farmers markets really that rare these days? I go to a local one once a month.

  15. Here, it’s more of a tradition than something that you can make a living from.

  16. Why are the felines plantigrade? Dont you usually draw them ditigrade?

  17. No, they’re not. I doubt there are many cities that go without a farmer’s market.

  18. Back home there are 2 or 3 farmers markets but where I am currently… I haven’t found one just yet, not saying there isn’t one just that I have no clue as to where it is.

  19. I just now realized that those are Beily & Safiri’s parents.
