○ Quinn holding up two simple burlap bags with straps: Even if we get caught, we won't get in trouble. At least, not -bad- trouble.

Looks like somebody doesn’t want to get into trouble. Probably because someone in his past said that before and they both got nailed hard for it.

good trouble: get sent to bed without any supper…tomorrow obviously because they’ve had supper already.
Bad trouble: Flogging.
Worse trouble: It is dark, they are eaten by a grue.

Well, personally I think Vin figures that his current fortunes with the Akaelae family are more of a windfall than any real caring (with his background that’s understandable), so he doesn’t want to risk the wrath of any in the family by getting in trouble.
