The wathcher in the third panel is not a fox, take a good look at the ears, wich provide a good stiloete, a fox would have sharper more pointed ears. Also, thay are not rounded enough for most felines, but, a feline is more posable. I expect the two green eyes are more so a hint of something like field glasses.
Poor Vin, hes old/mature enough to realize that this could be really realy big trouble for him if something goes wrong. Darrik was brought up rather diferently, I would expect with a bit more personal freedom, and thinks less of how others might punish him for events, than how he might be harmed.
Night vision doesn’t actually have any glowy bits(which would only hamper nightvision – think about it, it’s just light pollution whose reflection would obscure what you’re trying to actually see), aside from the amplified-light “display” pointing at the user’s eyes – I’d say we’re seeing the reflective layer of their eyes… reflecting. Based on the ears and the shape of the pupil(if that is eye reflection), it’s probably a wolf.
The only way I can see it being plausible kit is if it’s, say, a “nightvision contact lens” that’s dimly illuminating the iris, which could give a slit-pupil’d kitty round glowy eyes. Or if they’re, say, using an IR illuminator; then you just need something to frequency shift it rather than amplify, and could in theory be done passively, without a power supply; a better candidate for the “contact lens” approach, and if employed as field glasses or the ilk(and looking at it again, the size and spacing does suggest such), you can still have reflected/refracted light coming out the front, [i]if[/i] it’s a passive, entirely transparent system.
No one would know the cubs left the manor and no one would be expecting 4 cubs to be wondering out at night by themselves. So… the one in the tree is just as surprised as we are. Hmm… Darrik is lagging from the others. Wonder if he is going to be snatched.
Still hoping the cubs find the DH and either make friends with him or, if feral, tame him and want to keep him as a pet. “But daaaad, I want to keep the pony…”
