1. Ahh Quin, always looking so happy!

2. Could be a “busted” smile?

3. Quinn is cute today

4. wow look at that beautiful background behind Quin when she asks him to forget about seeing her.

nice work on quin. Is their ever a time when she’s surprised by something.

1. Ya know, that really IS a pretty background.

2. And no, she already established earlier that NOTHING surprises her.

5. WOW… good sword irresponsible panther that doesn’t know about Quinn… if she is flying, what makes you thing that a sword is going to be useful?? πŸ™‚ And with that smile there is no point in trying to scare her πŸ˜€

6. Sorry about my last comment… I tried to say “what makes you think…” instead of “what makes you thing…” πŸ™

7. I think this fellow may have surprised her a little, but only a little, and Quinn really is unflappable, not easily phased by any turn of events.

Not only because she can sense the thoughts of those nearby, but also because she is very free-spirited and optimistic.

8. And confident. Don’t forget that Quinn is very confident too! Although I have mentioned that Celina can crack Quinn’s unflappability. But that’s not till Campus Safari.

Has anybody else noticed the Quinn silhouette in Panel 2?

9. remember me not to mess with her…
eventually she will FORCE me to forgett…
not to mention the shock the poor kitty will get, when his sword goes right through her.

10. I don’t think he intends the sword to be a threat to Quinn — I figure he heard the kittens scream and came running to help, drawing the sword in case he needed it (his outfit makes me think he’s a guard or ranger or similar — by Quinn’s surprise, he can move extremely quietly). Obviously, he knows Quinn is just a cub too, even if she is flying/floatng around.

11. awesome page πŸ˜‰ I love Quinn πŸ˜‰

12. With all these black cats we’ve seen in this arc, everyone is gonna have bad luck for the next couple of centuries! XD

13. Jejejeje πŸ˜€

14. Always surprises me why they keep carrying big swords when they could just guns. o_o Lot of use such a sharp piece of metal would be against anything that flies! Well, unless he can throw it really well…

15. Ack. *could GET guns. Also, a complete blackout on the HTML tags… I should really sleep instead of posting comments on random pages!

16. LOL Quinn……

17. Lol true, but swords are much cooler =P
Nice strip, didn’t think Quinn would ever be surprised xD

18. looks like Quinn is using the old Jedi mind trick–
Quinn:”You never saw me…”
Black Jaguar: “What? Who? …Why am I out here again?”

19. Oh snap!

Heh-heh, nice, black panther brigade! Wonder who they are and what THEY’RE doing out and about at night!

Also, I love how Quinn looks in the last panel. Her hair is pretty! ^^

20. Why swords? It’s useful to have a weapon that never runs out of ammo. πŸ˜‰

I have no idea if this is true for Syke’s world, but it’s pretty common in sci-fi for firearms, blasters, and the like to be heavily restricted.

21. This looks hazardous to Quinn’s health, among other things! And let the misunderstandings continue to role.

22. First of all, I have a healthy respect for guns and their uses, good and bad. The reason most of the characters will carry a sword over a gun is because guns seem to incite rash actions in young characters who think they can shoot and get away with it since they’re doing it from a distance. Obviously, the bad guys are going to be heavier armed than one of our young guards. πŸ˜‰ So if they come upon someone with a gun and they have a sword, they’re more likely to NOT try to stop them on their own and pay more attention to not being seen. Cats are VERY good at not being seen. You also really won’t see younger characters being trusted with guns unless they’re in a dangerous area and usually accompanied by an adult. Just about all of the cultures teach their young how to hide, flee and not fight.

I kinda think that in general, firearms and blasters are restricted in scifi because it’d be too easy to kill any given character and really powerful weapons don’t make for the best of storylines. πŸ˜€ Everyone would have one if they could and it can make the atmosphere more tense than necessary.

There’s also simply the fact that I can barely draw swords. Drawing guns is even harder and I’m sure that figures into a lot of stories. πŸ˜‰

23. I expect Quinn to use a little “Escape and Evasion” here.

I’m willing to hazard a guess that Darius and the others have had more training than a normal. Darius and the others ARE either genetic elites or genoworks escapees.

If Celina is any indication, they’ve had a LOT of Escape and Evasion training and a decent bit of combat training. And they still don’t even have actual swords yet. The most we’ve seen is Celina’s hidden staff, Darius’ fists, Kel’s Poke of Doom and Quinn.

24. …Not to mention it’s harder to hit something with a gun, at least in sci-fi settings. Take the Matrix or Star Wars for examples. In Star Wars, you’ve got laser swords that act as mirrors for almost any projectile weapon. In the Matrix, you’ve got the superhuman ability to dodge bullets.

Naturally, characters from other sci-fi settings, including the Cyantian Chronicles, took notice of this, and decided that swords are a much more reliable weapon choice when it comes to inflicting damage.

25. Ooh, I just noticed the text (or was it just added?)

Chy!

That makes me excited and I have no idea why!

26. Cyantians also have an aversion to making people suffer with a bullet stuck in them. But the various Cyantian cultures still have guns and other long range weapons for combat and hunting. They just don’t give them to kids very often.

Chy is Sheana’s friend from Campus Safari. They were in school at the same time. Chythar could be an entirely different character. Or not. Only Syke and Chythar’s creator know for sure!

27. The big problem of guns is that they are really easy to use although you weren’t a good shooter. You can shoot to many times to miss all of them. Probably if people used swords instead guns, there would be less accidents and murders. If you are too drugged or too drunk you can’t lift a sword, and if you are twelve, you can’t kill your brother with your father’s swords because you can’t lift the sword.

To handle a sword you must be prepared to. You must be strong enough to move it avoiding cutting your own foot, and, if you want to be really effective with a sword, you have to train a lot of years. And good swords are really expensive. The don’t give them to you when you open an account in the bank (Michael Moore documental).

Better people, better prepared. When you train a lot of time like in martial art, with a weapon, you become more reflexive about the harm you can cause with it, and don’t use it irresponsibly. You appreciates more the lives you have to take when you don’t have alternative…

28. Gmwolf, that is an often repeated argument I do not agree with; it’s also dragging real-world (off-topic?) aspects which I do not neccesary would discuss here. But: it’s pretty easy to kill even with a simple knife, a lot of cases each year demonstrate that. If you become hell-bent on taking lives, nearly anything you can reach can be turned into a makeshift weapon, or hell, weapon of mass destruction (like explosives). Don’t blame the guns – blame the idiots.

sirbacon: in Matrix, unless you were Neo or a special program, you were screwed, guns or martial arts. πŸ˜‰ See when Morpheus tried engaging an agent with his bare hands… Star Wars – Lucas Physics the Storm Troopers give laser weapons a bad name, but actually everyone uses them apart from the Jedis and their evil counterparts, who are both supposed to be astonisinghly rare.

Tiff: thanks for the answer. πŸ™‚

29. @Ravenlord, I know, I was trying to lighten the mood while staying mostly on-topic.

Also, not everyone uses blasters in Star Wars; non-Force-sensitives such as General Grievous are known to use lightsabers, and other melee weapons such as electrostaffs and vibroblades are also common fare, despite their seldom appearances onscreen.

And Jedi aren’t astonishingly rare until after the events of Episode III, and even then there’s enough for Luke to rebuild the Jedi Order just a few years after Episode VI, not to mention a certain Sith Lord who remains hidden for the next few hundred years.
