I wonder what tipped Jules off. Maybe it’s that she can’t imagine photo-realistic costumes while Marcus has been around such freaks long enough to be able to? Maybe it’s some social cue, like the fact that the two were in the middle of nowhere for no reason, didn’t recognize a car, and are continually avoiding the question of where they came from?
Most probably, she observed their movements and decided they were too real to be costumes. I believe the tail movements would be the revealing clue, since it’s very hard to make a natural-looking robotic tail with our tech level. And yes, the fact that they appeared to be clueless about their surroundings could be another hint.
Their eyes were likely also a big clue. No fursuit has expressive eyes, and even really good masks don’t blink right.

Actually, they can make masks that use your own eyes now. No idea how well it work as far as vision, but with make-up (to cover the skin around the eyes), they look very real.
