As of today, it's one month until my birthday! And a step down the other side to 40. :D I bring this up, because every year I get a few nice gifts and as much as I love gifts, we're trying really hard to wipe out our debts. If you would like to, just note it as a gift so it doesn't incur unnecessary taxes and it will go toward getting these things out of the way. I've mentioned it before, they're a couple of lingering credit card bills from 2005, when Kim went into the hospital for almost half a year and we got severely messed over tax wise. :/ Our preparer did not do our taxes correctly and we finally got out from under that burden last year - only to lose an advertising company that was bringing in the exact amount of money each month that paid for the taxes = no progress. :( With the state of the economy still not improving, we get by, but it'd be a lot easier if we weren't pay 25% plus interest on groceries and bills from 7 years ago (Expensive car repair's on there too). We're whittling them down, but not at any speed that's really helping (although finally getting a tax return this year is going to knock out a bit! ALL of the return is going to the bills.) - Tiff

  1. Rotating Blades? Incoming.

  2. ‘Prepare for HALO drop everyone, and whatever you do, don’t hurt the cubs.’

  3. Wow. Alpha and Syrys don’t hold back when they go for a troop transport/dropship.

I think those specks in the back are vehicles!

  4. I can’t help thinking that looks like a giant jet ski.

    1. I was think more along the lines of a high-tech iron.

  5. I hope they brought along a couple of good psychologists. These cubs are likely to need them by the time this is over; especially Vincent and Celina.

    1. I think Vin is a lot more perceptive of what Rama is doing, and what he’s trying to achieve. There might be some effects from seeing what he’s doing to Vins friends, but I think Vin is a lot more solid of a mind than even Rama knows.

      1. The knowledge of what Rama is and that Rama is his father is what I think could cause part of the problems for Vincent. Add that to the baggage he’s already carrying from his childhood, his mother’s last letter, her death and manner of death and you’ve got all kinds of room for problems. Also; sooner or later he’s likely to find out that Rama killed her.

Celina on the other hand has been cubnapped three times in one summer; twice by Rama and once by the Rastin. Rama was deliberately targeting her both times and that would give her a “Rama’s out to get me!” mindset. The fact that the Rastin took her purely at random could easily change that to “The whole world’s out to get me!” Now, by the end of this arc, she’s also going to know that both Rama and the Rastin are still out there and fully capable of trying again.

        1. I don’t think Celina will have much trouble with coping. At the worst, it’ll make her a little bit angrier in the long run. (In my opinion, at least.) At best, it’s going to give ALL the cubs a healthy respect for the training that Syrys and the others have been surreptitiously giving them over the years.

I’m more worried about any trauma from getting involved in the fighting and seeing people killed in front of them.

        2. I can agree with that last; especially if the deaths they witness are as gruesome as Tiff has hinted. On the plus side, it now looks as if they’ll miss the worst of the battle.

  6. Ok, that thing’s big. Is that a dropship or a small warship like a frigate or a corvette? Or is it like the modern US Navy’s Amphibious Assault Ships used to ferry Marines, assault vehicles, and VTOL fighters in invasions? What is that thing?

(I’m a Naval Ships/Warfare buff, so please don’t mind me)

    1. The idea behind it is an aircraft carrier that acts as a dropship for various kinds of troops as well, mostly aerial based.

      1. So an airborne aircraft carrier?

      2. So not like an aircraft carrier, which is solely for power projection. This beast is like the Tarawa or Wasp-class Amphibious Assault Ships, which are solely for assaulting enemy ground positions or attacking light enemy warships with attack fighters. They can’t wage war like their larger cousins, but you can’t support beachhead operations without them.

  7. Interesting design. I have to wonder at what altitude they’ll begin their drop and if the design is decently stealthy (optically, thermally, and audibly) in order to close well. Just as interestingly, from the previous page, it looked like medium lifts in use, not heavy or master (no shock there, as for an antiterrorist-style action you’d want small size and high maneuverability plus the ability to engage successfully in close quarters combat). I’m wondering if those are flight-capable, or if for this use they’re going to be fitted with the equivalent of drop-packs (parachute, thruster, or gravitic units meant for landings).
On the overall, this is definitely about to get both hot (as in firefight kind of hot) and interesting.

  8. Geez the only thing I can think is a needler from Halo!
