  1. Blow up? As in explosive cause he ain’t mastered it yet! O.o

  2. She has the name of a radioactive element one I might add that has the power to destory half a planet and it seems that she blows suff up offten and you want her to help with moveing rocks.

    This cant end well.

  3. Heh, Quinn is already making friends with Cobalt’s horse – even a concussion can’t keep her down for long (though her psi abilities are probably best left alone for the moment — probably be rather erratic). While I like moving things along, it feels a bit like we’re missing a comic before this one. Glad they didn’t have to resort to more extreme measures with the “demon” horse though.

  4. technomage in training huh… Well as long as Cobalt doesn’t lose confidence in… oh wait… doesn’t sound like there’s much there anyways…

@RGD: Cobalt isn’t a naturally radioactive element, the radioactive form has to be artificially produced. Its not high enough on the periodic table to be naturally unstable enough to normally be radioactive, unlike Uranium, there are a few exceptions but cobalt isn’t one. Its not THAT destructive… but it is present in a lot of meteoroids… The artificially produced one however is a source of Y rays which are a high energy form of radiation still not able to destroy much of a planet but not fun to be near… Either way this isn’t the place for a physics/chemistry lesson, too much talking and not enough room lol

But all the “confidence” we’re picking up on sends bad vibes..

Maybe Cobalt is named Cobalt because of the color cobalt colored glass takes?

  5. This sounds rather exciting, glad they got the horsie under control lol.

  6. Cobalt is named after the mineral, and it’s use as a pigment for making things blue. So I suppose one could say she was named after both. :3

I hope, that no one get’s blown up for the cute fennecs sake!

  7. Looks like we’ll be seeing some explosives.

  8. Love the Thematic Sonicesque naming… a Blue Fox named Cobalt, Silver named Silver, etc. etc. etc.

  9. Cobalt isn’t one of my characters. She’s a cameo. 🙂 From Lorenith.

  10. A very lucky cameo too I think, to get as many pages as she has.

I’m not quite sure how to feel about this talk of “thematic sonicesque naming” though. 😛

  11. Quinn’s not making friends with the demon horse. That’s Cobalt’s horse she’s befriending.

I’m not sure who called it, but somebody called that Mercial had an apprentice.

Lorenith: It’s the “Sonic” in “Sonicescue” that gets you doesn’t it.

  12. Heh heh hedgehogs…Oh and @Stray, you should of seen the posts a couple weeks ago…I ended up getting slapped, but I was right mutter…Newton…mutter…observation… mutter…wrong on very small, very fast, very large…

*Shakes a fist at KHGV Defenestration *

But that’s for a different time, To explode or not to explode is the question of the moment. I’m hoped for explosions they make things interesting. Explosions are always fun, at least 99% of 3% of the time.

  13. KHGV Defenestration

Explosions are always fun, provided you’re at a safe distance and not friends with anyone who isn’t. 😀

As for nukes and cobalt, the planet-killing ‘danger’ is in nukes ‘salted’ with cobalt, which can produce large amounts of particularly nasty radioactive fallout – the resulting isotopes are, in theory, in a sweet spot of decaying fast enough that the radiation is very intense, while still being slow enough to persist in the environment for a while(~5 year half-life) to spread and do damage. Still being dangerous and persistent when, say, your enemy’s fallout shelters run out of supplies and they have to come out for food, air, and water. Or so the theory goes.

Nowhere near as dangerous as it’s made out to be, however – you’d need huge amounts of the stuff to actually endanger the planet. But then, the danger of nuclear anything is always vastly overblown.

  14. *takes down notes*
Yeah, more about the salted peanut nuke thingy………..This’ll all come in handy when I begin my plot to take over ze world! “Muwahahahaha!”

@ Lorineth: Kudos on you cameo’s spot.

  15. An inexperienced technomage who tends to blow things up, being asked to move large rocks around near PEOPLE.
I don’t see this going smoothly. I don’t see this ending terribly badly. After all, Tiff hasn’t let us down with bad endings. Lately. But I can see a hazy, cloudy image of someone else needing bandages.

  16. I agree with Frost on the kudos part! I wish I had more artistic talent… I’ve been told I have potential but never really explored that aspect of my abilities. Plus I’m still learning to play more on the guitar at the moment.

@KHGV: Didn’t know they theoretically salted nukes with cobalt. Though it does make sense. While I’m not sure about how many Radons(measure of radioactivity, not the element) cobalt can produce, Y rays, like all high energy radiation, can cause instant cellular damage on a molecular scale.

Lets just hope Cobalt doesn’t make the boulders radioactive when she moves them….. or blows them up…. I think I’m going to take cover in my lead lined hazmat suit now… Better safe then glowing in this case! Wait… would I glow blue… I feel my ADHD kicking in at full swing now….

  17. It makes sense if you like obscene amounts of death and destruction. Having your molecular structures pelted with high energy rays, electrons, and alpha particles does not sound pleasant to me. Then again if one is into that sort of mass murder on a large scale, I’m probably not going to be able to stop them.

Anyway, not knowing exactly how techno-magic works (or at least the artificial science behind it), I can’t make much of a statement about theory. However, assuming one is some how applying high amounts energy to a substance one could potentially create a nuclear fusion and then fission subsequently, but that would require energy levels close to some of the biggest stars. So I’m not to worried about Cobalt nuking the forest. I’m more concerned about more conventional explosions that involve large amounts of unpleasant shrapnel. Everybody loves high speed granite shards in their face, especially the eyes.

  18. I wonder how you guys would feel knowing that cobalt is also used as a tracer in medicine.

  19. Lorenith: I’ve got you beat. I KNOW they use cocaine in certain nasal surgeries. (It tightens up the skin in the nasal passages in small doses.)

Plus, I do believe it was just mentioned that regular cobalt isn’t radioactive or toxic. It’s only refined or properly exploded cobalt that’s deadly.

Oh, and anybody who has read Campus Safari knows from Heath’s actions what the likely (bad) outcome will be.

  20. Yeah but since everyone is talking about radioactivity, it seemed worth it to bring out that a weakly radioactive cobalt isotope is used as a tracer.

Man “isotope” sounds like a cool name, too bad nobody in any of my stories would know what an isotope was if it came up and bit them!

  21. Makes it all the better in my opinion. It like using “Archive” as a name. Archive is such a cool word, but a lame name, unless you’re talking about a robot/data library type person. Now comments direct at others, mwuhahahahaha.

@hariman, Wasn’t ecstasy a drug meant to relieve marital stress?

@lorenith, Man, I wish I had the time and talent to make a comic strip.

@Stray, Acoustic or electric? I’m an acoustic guy myself.

And finally, completely totally and utterly off topic, but does anyone know how to cook? I’m looking for a decadent pasta dish that includes some sort of non-fish meat. I have this idea for this awesome five-course dinner, but I need an entree. Sigh, I know, I know, the most important part, but I could really use some help!

  22. I do not make a comic! Tiffany on the other hand makes many!

  23. @lorenith: well even if you don’t, one of your characters is now in one. lol. Still if you have any interesting stories you mind sharing I’d love to read them. Entirely up to you though!

@black_hat: I have/play/am learning to play both actually, I started learning on the acoustic but I play electric with my friends in our band, even though its highly unlikely it’d be funny if we became famous but mostly we play as a just for fun type thing. In my opinion the acoustic is good for practicing because the extra force needed to hold the strings down makes playing the electric a lot easier in comparison. And acoustic hurts after weeks of not practicing, didn’t practice for a few months and practiced playing for 2 hours, I could have sworn that my fingers were about to start bleeding…
