I think that’s Rama’s plan, sorta. HE won’t consider it “messed up” though.

Rama doesn’t want a son. He wants a herald to proclaim his success in taking revenge for a slight that he never had the guts to overcome. And if he’s got to break his son and the cubs of his enemies, he will.
Rama’s planning on breaking the cubs to his will and sending them back as double agents. That way he gets the satisfaction of getting his revenge using the children of his enemies.
