I like Darius’ expression in the last panel. I’d call it an “uh-oh” expression but his ears are still up. Not quite a blank look either. Hmm.. 🙂 I’m not sure just -what- his reaction is.

I would call it a mix of surprise and curiosity, with a liberal dash of confusion and maybe a little worry, allayed because it’s coming from his grandfather, whom he trusts.
I think there’s a harsh dose of reality in that look too. Darius just got notified that he’s growing up and will have to take responsibility for his life soon.
The metaphorical resemblance to a deer in headlights is uncanny.

Ah yes, the hated “you’re growing up” birthday. Almost everybody has to deal with it.
