Comics for July 12, 2001 - 07/12/2001 - Wow.  725 strips.  Campus Safari has ended in this incarnation.  It began a LONG time ago as one of my first comics and I want to redo it with better art and updated writing. I had to stop doing it primarily to avoid 'fixing' events in Akaelae and closing off avenues of story that I may want to change and well.. I don't really intend to CHANGE the majority of Campus Safari.  I intend to ADD to it!

  1. As an avid fan of Orson Scott Card, I agree with Darius.

  2. I do love his reaction, doesn’t take much watching of ST: TNG to realize what an incredibly big effort to avoid one’s moral responsibilities the Prime Directive ends up really being. I think more works focus on mocking or subverting the trope rather than playing it straight anymore.

    1. Don’t you dare say that Star Trek the next generation plays it straight. Didn’t it ever occur to you that the federation is presented as a dystopia, not a eutopia? They made too many episodes which demonstrate how shallow and arrogant the policy is, from the one where the people think “The Picard” is a god and he has to prove he’s not so that they don’t create a religion around him, to the one where the people are going to be annihilated by the natural disaster and worf’s adopted brother sneaks them into the holodeck to relocate them to another planet. That show is a gem, because it warns future generations about how vapid such a policy would be – it demonstrates how DOESN’T always make them stronger to not help the weak in their times of adversity. And it ALSO shows people who are smart enough to see it, that “god” is vapid and unworthy of respect if he exists, because the only way he could exist would be if he was doing the same thing. What would superman do if he saw someone in trouble? Would he just say “I just won’t interfere, they’ll be better off for it?” and then just stand by when they’re killed? No sir, he knows that that which kills you doesn’t make you stronger, and usually that which doesn’t kill you also doesn’t make you stronger, and that’s why he saves the day.

      1. Wow, that’s so vitriolic I almost regret rereading the archives and coming across it.
