These are ruins from the days of the Squid occupation. It’s possible, if I remember correctly, that these ruins date back to the time when the Rumuah were still alive.
Although, I get the feeling that the wooden bracing is a new addition.
Darius has another hard choice here. Does he go forward or does he go back and call for help? Or does he try to find another entrance instead of exposing himself to the risk of capture?

Could it perhaps be the gate Derrik went through? If not, then what is with the tunnel?

Looking for another entrance he would risk losing sight of the group.
Thus he will probably try to sneak in the front disguised as a piece of timber.
