Interestingly, and ironically, Rama takes after his Father, Shean Tibal. He’s apparently got a similar tendency to use women for pleasure, with an added streak of using them for his own personal gain.
There’s also at least two ways to take that bit of conversation between Rama and Filaire. Dark and Darker. There might be a third that I’m going to call “Brrr!”.
Poor Vin. It’s very likely he’s never been talked to like this before. He’s always had negative thoughts about his looks, especially the ones those girls are pointing out specifically.
Ideally, Rama did dispose of Vinn’s negligent mother and her abusive boyfriend. Rather than hiring a henchmen to do it, he did the deed with his own claws. Never really liked either of the characters. The boyfriend regularly beat Vincent and his mother pretty much just stood there and watched. I approved of Rama’s choice to kill them. Some people are just flat out rotten, but Rama is not all out evil. Certainly not good, neither neutral. But rather a bad guy inbedded with smatting of honor.
Generic bad guys are unimaginative and quite frankly boring. Complex relationships and characters are generally what an author wants to shoot for. Take in for example Stan Lee, very few villains in the Marvel are truly evil. Many have heroes who are friends who are also their enemies, such as the relationship between Magneto and Profession Xavier.
In his own screwed up way, Rama cares for his son. When he’s not being manipulative and using him for his own ends such as now. Whatever Rama has planned, he will not kill Vincent.
Still, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s using these girls to try to bribe his son to his side. Or the fact that Rama regrets not finding Vin early enough to have him brainwashed so that coercion wouldn’t be necessary. Or the fact that Vin and his siblings were conceived via rape.
Yeah, Rama is complex. But he’s also ended up almost wholly evil. I’m not even sure if Sirine could get him to stop at this point.
Vin’s smart, but he’s also young. He doesn’t know what to think of these girls, so it may be hard not to be nice to them–poor things. Rama will end up trapping Vin anyway, just not for the reasons he was hoping for.
They ARE good for something. Good for being sluts and good for being terrible liars. And is it just me, or does the vixen have buck teeth there? And after the claws comment, I finally understand while Vin’s dad was kicked out.
