  1. Hmmph, the use of the phrase ‘clean up’ makes is sound like a spilled drink or such. They are people for the love of God! The idea of a race of aliens that have a rather callus view to life is very sad.

    1. It seems quite a few alien races have callus views on life. I’m not sure humans are much of an exception. Our race can be pretty awful.

  2. I’ve often wondered if “human” was actually a race, or a species…

    1. It seems in stories with other sentient species, especially bipedal humanoid ones, homo sapiens are referred to as a race rather than species. Also, the phrase ‘human race’ is used even outside fiction.

I’ve pondered this technicality myself often as one of my comics is a high fantasy that has elves and dwarves and fauns etc making up a chunk of the world’s population. In that comic half-breeds are not possible like in most fantasies, because each species is too genetically unique to produce children. And I often thought about whether each should be reffered to as a species or a race. In the end, I decided that ‘race’ just rolls off the tongue better.

      1. Scientifically speaking, the difference between “race” and “species” is that different species cannot interbreed and create fertile children

        1. True, but when writing, sometimes accuracy has to be sacrificed for flow. Using ‘race’ in dialogue tends to flow better, and is more familiar to a reader’s ear. 🙂

  3. I suppose it’s a kind of twisted version of the “Prime Directive.” They’ve already shown a willingness to take over the bodies of individuals, although how much control they wielded has yet to be revealed. As the hybrids represent a mark of theirs on the planet, if they wanted it gone they either had to take them offworld or kill them. It seems like offering them the chance to come willingly was never done, for whatever reason.

    1. It’s also possible that they consider the hybrids a security leak in much the same way the Americans wouldn’t want an intact stealth fighter lying around in The Congo.
