Rama says that the Akaelaes lie. I don’t recall Alpha saying anything about Rama telling lies.
If I were Vin, I would be confused.
Since I’m not, well…
Alpha didn’t expect Rama to kidnap Vin. Plus, there’s only so much you can say about someone like Rama. His reputation as “Wolf” is enough to make most people think that he’s the scum of Cyantia.
If Alpha had tacked on “Oh yeah, Rama’s a liar too.”, Vin would probably be more suspicious of the Akaelae’s right now. Alpha only told him what he knows of Rama and that he regrets the choices he made when dealing with Rama. Rama is only saying that the Akaelaes are liars.
I’m pretty sure that Vin has already spotted this dichotomy, which is why we see him considering running for help here. I think Vin knows that Rama is a dratsad who wants what’s best for Rama, not what’s best for Vin.
Only a few. Rama really does want to win the loyalty of his son to gain an heir. The greatest issue is that Rama long ago chose to be amoral. Thus, Rama is willing to lie, cheat, steal and murder to achieve his objectives.

If he say there will be cake, it would mean he was obviously lying.

I shudder when I think of just how many urges Rama had to suppress to keep up his “nice guy” act for this long.
