Strict rules and regiment, when forced, is painful. But when there’s choice, that ability to walk away at any time, it can actually feel pretty darn good. Mind you knowing there is real concern there (however hard to see), and having time that’s yours to do with as you please, makes that regiment that much better. It changes it from slavery to responsibility, which oddly enough, can make a person not only more willing to “do their part”, but lead to them enjoying the work.
Kind of nice to see this complex dynamic in action. I wasn’t sure how they’d take it, but this kind of reaction wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.
Seems like she’d be a much better choice for training Darius than his current trainers, she’d have him embracing it as his choice instead of feeling stifled and needing to run away.
