Cover your feet in salty water. Then let it air dry and don’t wash it off.
Toughens up the skin and pads till you adapt and prevents blisters.
Was that in the regular manual or the Explorers manual? I just looked and did not see it in my regular manual. (Sad. Lost my Explorer manual years ago. 🙁 )
Could be it. Mine is ‘only’ from 1966.
I bookmarked that original reprint. Looks like it might actually be an interesting read. Also the one about Indian Boyhood by Eastman.

I did all my hiking when I was “young”er. I don’t remember hearing of this “old hiker’s” trick at all. 🙂 Sounds like a good idea though!

It might of been in an older manual, there’s been numerous revisions of the guidebook over the decades.
